Vibrant Visuals in Minecraft: Built-In Shaders with a Blocky Charm 🌅

Minecraft has always been known for its iconic pixelated aesthetic, but Mojang is taking things to the next level with a brand-new graphical feature called Vibrant Visuals. This exciting addition is currently available in the Minecraft Beta and is expected to officially release in the Summer Update. It’s Mojang’s take on built-in shaders—offering stunning lighting, reflections, and shadows—all while staying true to Minecraft’s charming blocky style.

If you’ve ever used shader packs in Minecraft Bedrock or Java Edition to enhance your visuals, this new feature is something you’ll love—and it’s officially built into the game, no external addons needed!

👁️What is Vibrant Visuals?

Vibrant Visuals is a graphical setting in Minecraft’s Video Settings menu, appearing alongside the traditional “Simple” and “Fancy” options—but only if your device supports it. Designed for high-end devices, this feature delivers dynamic shadows, realistic lighting effects, fog, bloom, and more—giving Minecraft a more immersive and cinematic look.

Despite the graphical upgrades, Mojang has cleverly retained the game’s core blocky aesthetic. Think of it as shaders designed by Mojang, carefully balanced to offer both visual quality and performance.

🤔How to Enable Vibrant Visuals

To find and enable Vibrant Visuals:

  1. Go to Settings > Video in Minecraft Beta.

  2. Look under the Graphics Mode section.

  3. If your device supports it, you’ll see the option: Simple / Fancy / Vibrant Visuals.

  4. Select Vibrant Visuals to unlock advanced rendering options.

Once enabled, you'll get access to a new dropdown with three preset profiles:

  • Favour Performance – Optimized for smooth gameplay with reduced visuals.

  • Favour Visuals – Cranks up the quality for beautiful environments.

  • Custom – Unlocks full control over individual graphical settings.

⚙️Custom Graphic Settings Breakdown

If you choose the Custom option, a wide range of individual settings becomes available. Here’s what you can tweak:

1. Shadow Quality

  • Low

  • Medium

  • High

  • Ultra

This controls how sharp and dynamic shadows appear. Higher settings create more realistic and responsive shadows, especially as the sun moves across the sky.

2. Clouds

  • Low

  • Medium

  • High

  • Ultra

Adjusts the quality and thickness of clouds in the sky. Ultra makes them look soft and volumetric, enhancing the vibe during sunsets and thunderstorms.

3. Volumetric Fog Quality

  • Off

  • Low

  • Medium

  • High

  • Ultra

Enables depth and distance fog, giving areas like caves or forests a misty, atmospheric touch. Great for storytelling and spooky builds.

4. Reflections

  • Off

  • Low

  • Medium

  • High

  • Ultra

Applies reflections to surfaces like water and shiny blocks. Water mirrors the sky and sun beautifully. You’ll also notice sunlight reflecting off iron blocks and armor!

5. Bloom

  • Adjustable as a percentage, up to 100%

Adds a soft glow to bright objects, like torches or the sun. At night, torches and glowstone look absolutely stunning with bloom turned on.

6. Upscaling

  • Bilinear (Lower quality)

  • TAAU (Higher quality with better anti-aliasing)

TAAU (Temporal Anti-Aliasing Upscale) offers cleaner visuals with reduced jagged edges.

7. Resolution

  • Automatic

  • 33%

  • 50%

  • 66%

  • 75%

  • Native

Lets you scale rendering resolution to balance performance and quality. Useful for devices with less power.

8. Use VSync

  • Vertical Sync

  • No Vertical Sync

  • Adaptive Vertical Sync

Controls screen tearing by syncing the game’s frame rate with your monitor’s refresh rate.

⛏️Advanced Options: Render Dragon Features for Creators

If you’re experimenting or developing, enabling “Render Dragon Features for Creators” in the settings unlocks two additional options:

Point Light

1. Point Light Shadow Quality

  • Off

  • Low

  • Medium

  • High

  • Ultra

Improves how shadows behave around light sources like torches and lanterns.

2. Point Light Quality

  • Off

  • Low

  • Medium

  • High

  • Ultra

Controls how light spreads from light-emitting blocks, especially at night. On Ultra, torches cast gorgeous pixel shadows that move with you!

📃Key Features and Visual Enhancements

Minecraft Village Look with Vibrant Visuals

Here’s what makes Vibrant Visuals stand out:

  • Pixel-perfect shadows that move with the sun’s direction.

  • Sunlight reflections on water and metallic blocks.

  • Realistic light diffusion from torches and lanterns at night.

  • Glowing bloom effects that make bright areas pop.

  • Blocky charm remains intact—Minecraft still looks like Minecraft.

For example, iron blocks and iron armor now reflect light, and even mobs like the Iron Golem gain a metallic sheen. Water isn’t just flat and blue anymore—it sparkles with the sun and reflects the sky. It feels alive.

🎮Supported Platforms

Not all devices can handle these stunning visuals. As of now, Vibrant Visuals is supported on the following platforms:

  • Xbox One

  • Xbox Series X/S

  • PlayStation 4

  • PlayStation 5

  • Android (high-end only)

  • iOS (high-end only)

  • Windows (with capable hardware)

If you don’t see the option in your settings, it likely means your device doesn't meet the requirements—though future optimizations may expand compatibility.

Known Issues & Personal Experience 😕

While the feature is visually amazing, it’s still in beta, and that means there are bugs. One major issue I’ve personally faced is:

“When I look around or move the screen on medium or high settings, black spots sometimes appear. It’s distracting and breaks the immersion.”

Hopefully, Mojang is aware of this and working on a fix before the full release.

🕹️Final Thoughts: Shaders Without the Mods

Vibrant Visuals is a game-changer for Minecraft. It offers the beauty of shaders without breaking the game’s style or requiring external mods. Whether you want dramatic sunsets, atmospheric caves, or just better-looking builds, this feature delivers. And best of all—it’s all official and built-in.

It’s perfect for players who want to enhance their visuals while still staying true to Minecraft’s original look.
